Hey there π
Happy Monday!
The question I get asked most when a newsletter goes up for sale: how long until it sells? I pulled this year's numbers so far for a real answer below.
Letβs get into it!
Cheers,
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SELL A NEWSLETTER?
It's the question I get asked most when someone lists it: How long until it sells? So I pulled our data from this year to give you a real answer.
On average, about 66 days, with the typical sale closing in just under two months. The fastest went in a single day. The slowest took several months. So if you're listing, think weeks to a couple of months, not overnight, and not forever.
But the average hides the interesting part. A few things clearly move a newsletter faster:
Niche matters. The quickest sales this year were in AI, jobs, and news, some closing in under a week. The slowest to move were lifestyle and personal newsletters, which tend to sit. Specific and useful beats broad and general.
The right size sells fastest. Counterintuitively, it's not the smallest or the biggest. Lists in the 10Kβ50K subscriber range moved quickest, often in about a month. The bigger lists (50K+) take the longest, simply because bigger deals often are the slowest (longer audit process and deal flow in general)
Revenue speeds things up. A newsletter that makes money, even a little, sells faster and closer to asking than a big list with no income. Buyers move quickly when the numbers are already there; they hesitate more when they have to imagine the upside.
Fair pricing is the real accelerant. The deals that closed fast were priced sensibly from day one. Most of our sales this year went at or near full asking, the ones that lingered usually started too high.
And of course, it still depends on many criteria. Every newsletter is unique, and the average is just that, an average. Some find their buyer in a day, others take patience.
But here's what I've come to notice after watching hundreds of these: every newsletter has its buyer. The right one is often closer than you think, especially once the price is fair and the asset is genuinely useful.

Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads
Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Hereβs how:
After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.
The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.
βFor CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,β said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. βComping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROASβ¦ and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.β
Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.
